I went to an Infiniti dealership and they said it would cost me about $4000 to fix it. (they did not even look at the car). I talked to my mechanic and he said i could put a universal converter on it that would cost probably less than 300$ to fix on it.
Is it smart to put the $300 one on it? What challenges should i forsee by going the universal converter route?
A: There is nothing wrong with using a universal converter. Your mechanic can weld it into place. If you live in California and have to take the California emissions test you will not pass it with a universal converter. If you can save yourself money go ahead. The only difference with a universal converter is that it has to be adapted to fit and it is a little less constrictive.

A: Very easy.
1. Press and hold garage door opener 1 and 3 in your G35 until the light blinks
2. Take the remote you use to get into your house and press and hold the button near the rear view mirror. At the same time press and hold the button you would like to program for that door. The light will start blinking slowly and then faster. Let go of the buttons
3. Go into your garage and press the learn button on your garage door opener. These are different colors depending on the make and model.
4. within 30 seconds press and hold the button you programmed in your car until the light in your garage blinks.
That's it. The process is pretty much the same for most vehicles.

A: The problem you will face is whether or not your state does a smog check that includes compliance with state standards. In California, New York, Vermont and several other states the only catalytic converers that are approved for post-1995 vehicles is the factory converters. if you put on an aftermarket converter it may not pass the emissions tailpipe test and will fail the visual inspection if it is done in your state.
most states do not allow the re-sale of converters through junk yards so finding a used one is not an option.
NAPA parts stores list some converters available that they claim are compliant, at least with the tailpipe test so if you live in a state where the smog test is tailpipe testing only you should investigate those.
the $300 converters are all for pre-OBD II vehicles. You won't find a $300 converter for one that is post-1995 that meets California standards. That's why the dealer price is so high--they are the only "legal" supplier.

A: Either a bad starter or not enough power to the starter. Something best diagnosed by a mechanic, but first make sure that your battery terminals are clean. If they are really corroded it may have gotten into the cable and ruined it as well. Use baking soda and water to clean bad connections and make sure they are good and tight. Next, make sure the battery is getting enough power by having someone jump the car while you try to start it. If that doesn't work, tap the starter with a hammer while someone holds the key to "start." If the last one works, the starter will probably need to be replaced or rebuilt to work reliably.
Q: Mechanics can't get my water pump to move on my Infiniti I30 to replace the belts.?
Has anyone ever replaced the accessory belts on an Infiniti I30? Or have you experienced this issue on another vehicle. I'm trying to figure out if I need to be worried about them fixing my car.
A: Never worked on an Infiniti.
That said, I've never heard of having to move a water pump when changing belts. Usually a water pump is firmly bolted to the block, well underneath all belts and pulleys.

A few to look at,as we know the I30 is the foreign Maxima,so by looking at these forums its own sections and being in other countries its the same car although named Maxima.
We can give you a list of mods to increase speed which is standard modding but your best asking on the forum for which they advise to be the best parts to use and waht not to use.
As i can say induction kit they you will have to hunt for which one,at least on a forum someone will know which one and the same with other parts also.
Also look at yahoo Japan etc,you get some great sites from owners to sellers to look at what they have to offer.

I cant find any angel eyes headlights for the infiniti i30 but they have alot for the maxima, and I heard the maxima and i30 are the same car.
A: Best check on the forum as models do vary in size the maxima is smaller than the i30 the i30 is the European Maxima and also in Aus badged in China Japan etc as a Cefiro,which is based on the US Maxima but does differ in size and some spec.

A: its not gonna fit. different headlight cutouts and grills. the infiniti grill opens with the hood, and the nissan doesnt.

I bought a 1998 Infiniti I30 arround May 2007 a little after two months the AIR BAG LIGHT came on. I did some research about it on line and I found a forum discussing the subject where more Infiniti owners where complaining about the same. There was a procedure on line to follow if your car did that. The procedure was to turn off the engine triger the door switch and turn on engine. It worked it turned the light off. But my question is what will happen if I was in a accident? And is it really the air bag or just a sensor? I mean alot of owners were complaining about the same. Can all of them have bad air bags?
A: More likely the sensor; call the dealership you bought it from and ask for service or write the corporation itself...they often have many answers and perhaps it is a thing that will need to be recalled if indeed the airbag will not work in an accident; better to do it now than wait to find out.............

A: Take it to the dealer...OR get a wiring diagram and by-pass the door switches to see if the components work. You will need a long ground wire, a long B+ wire and a 30amp circuit breaker to hook between the battery positive and the B+ wire.
You can also just order the drivers door switch assembly and take a chance. You can't return electrical parts.

A: Take the engine out, dis-assemble have block, heads , and intake(s)"vatted", heads and valves ground, re-assemble and put it back in.
In a couple of months, stuff will be back in it, that's the nature of internal combustion engines!
Just perform regular maintenance and it will be fine. If yo wish to wash the exterior of the engine, thats ok just don't use real harsh chemicals, steam, or excessive water pressure.

A: J, both of those are relatively easy tasks on the I30, which is identical to the Maxima.
The radiator can be tackled by a novice, and replacement radiator can be had from RadiatorBarn for around $100. Make sure to replace hoses and thermostat as well.
The drive axle is a little more difficult, but not impossible for the "backyard mechanic".
